Cheerleading Stunts – From Full Down to Double Down!!!

FULL DOWN:

The full down is an awesome dismount from a stunt when you get to USASF Level 3! It is exciting to watch and if executed properly is a very clean and precise way to end a stunt!

DOUBLE DOWN:

Again the double down is an awesome dismount from a stunt in a Level 4 routine! It is one of those skills that will always ‘WOW’ the audience!! It is an amazing stunt/dismount to watch if it is executed properly. :-)

Below are some Key Points for the Bases and Flyer:

  • Side Bases: Must make sure that you are bending through your knees, majority of the power behind the cradle is from the knees – so you need to bend deep through your knees then pop with your shoulders and extend your arms up. Keep your arms up high to catch and bend through your knees to catch.

  • Back Base: You will be the person that will help control the timing of the twist... This is very important to ensure the twist is on the correct counts. Again bend through your knees to help with the final bit of height behind the cradle. Catch high to protect the head, neck and shoulders and be prepared to move if the flyer travels in their twist.

  • Flyer: You need to make sure that you are waiting for the bases pop, keep your legs locked in and don’t bend with the bases. Lift your shoulders as the bases pop, while bringing your arms into a tight body position. The focus of the arms should be to bring them in tight to the side of the spin in order to aid the spin and not hinder it. Bring your right shoulder and hip over top of the body while looking sharply with the head as well.
  • In the double down the flyer must stay tight and must not open up from the first twist too early because your will not be able to complete the 2nd twist. You must make sure that you are bringing your arms across your body to the left side to be able to complete the double and also be sure to keep your body in a tight hollow body position.
