6 tips to a perfect walkover!
Hi All,
Hope everyone is enjoying Term 2. There is only 2 more weeks left of classes before the Holidays! :-) Then it will be back into it in Term 3, preparing for Carnival, Grading and lots of other exciting events!
This week’s blog is for all our Cheerleading Fans “6 Tips to perfect Front Walkover!”
6 Tips to a Perfect Front Walkover:
- 1. When performing a Front Walkover, you should hit a complete split position with your legs; ensure that your legs never come together in your front walkover and that they remain straight the entire time with strong pointed toes.
- 2. Start with your arms above your head shoulder width apart, and ensure that you keep a straight line from your hands down to the back leg.
- 3. Keep your ears between your arms at all times; remember to keep looking at your hands at all times through the front walkover.
- 4. Once you have hit your split position you will start to place your leading leg onto the ground and then open up stretch through your shoulders, make sure you keep your body in an arched position with your hips pushed forward.
- 5. Once you have placed your leading leg on the ground you will then push off through both of your hands and use your stomach muscles and hips flexors to pull your upper body off the floor.
- 6. Most Important Tip - Don't cheat when finishing you Front Walkover! :-) Most people will pull off through one hand at the end then twist their shoulders to come up one arm at a time because this is easier... However to do a perfect walkover you should always push through both hands and come up with a straight body.
Have fun practicing your front walkovers!
