hip hop: l-kick!!! 

Hi All,

This week’s blog is for all of our HIP HOP FANS!! :-) We will be working on the L-Kick! The L-Kick in Hip Hop is a real crowd favourite!! It can really hype the crowd up... It is a great trick to get the audience excited while watching your routine!! It is definitely not an easy skill to master but with drills and some practicing you will have it in no time!

 

How to do an L-Kick! (also known as an L-Stand)

  • Start by standing with your feet shoulder width apart and hands by your side.
  • Take your hand down the ground as if you are about to push up into a handstand while bringing your legs up into the air, your first leg extending to grab with your left hand and the other bent in. (you should be in a one handed handstand position)
  • When you put your hand down to the ground make sure your hand is flat with fingers spread apart... this makes for a more stable surface for balance.
  • Try and stay in this position for a few seconds – hold your L-Kick for a more WOW effect. Rather than just hitting it and coming straight back down. 

Drills for the L-Kick – the drill below will really help you with your L Kick while you are just learning. It is also a great drill to help build strength and stability for your L Kick.

  • Start by standing with a partner and have them monkey grip your left hand with their right hand, this will let them be able to help you balance when kicking into your L Kick. While you have your partner try and continue to hold your L-Kick. This will help you in the long run to be able to hold it for a few seconds own your own.
