FAD blog

spotting drills!

Hi All,

I hope you all had a fabulous holiday and are ready for an exciting Term 3!!

There are lots of events to look forward to in Term 3... FAD Dance Stars Comp, FAD Carnival and lots of other displays and events within your home studio!!

For the next 2 weeks my Blog is going to be focusing on TURNS!! :-)

This week we will start with some spotting exercises and next week we will be doing Fouette’s! Turns are a great technical element to have in routines, whether it is 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 Turns, they will always be a crowd pleaser!!! :-)

To do any turns it is necessary to spot! By spotting you will be able to control and complete several turns without becoming dizzy or falling out of your turns!

Drills for Spotting!

  1. Stationary Spotting Drill: Practice your spotting by facing the front with feet together, looking forward and focusing on a point. Continue to focus on that point for as long as possible while slowly moving your feet to turn your body back, continue to move feet to rotate body fully whipping your head around quickly to re-focus on your point once halfway through your turn.
  2. Travelling Spotting Drill: Starting with your right foot forward, look to the right side and find a focus point in front of you. Then take your right leg out to the side in a knee bend then bring your left leg into the right doing a turn and whipping your head back around to the side to focus of the spot that you started at, (not the front) :-)

Check out the Video for a demonstration on the Spotting Drills above!

Tune in next week for some more exciting tips and tricks on Fouette’s!!! :-)
