FAD Blog:

the perfect split leap!

Hi All,

I hope you have all had a fabulous first 2 weeks of Term 2! Currently I am at the Cheer and Dance WORLDS in FLORIDA! Next weeks blog will be about my trip and the experience of seeing the world’s best – so be sure to check that out... It will be a Blog NOT to be missed!!

This week's blog is based on our Jazz Classes and works on the Jazz Split Leap Technique!

‘The Perfect Split Leap!’

Achieving the perfect Split Leap can be challenging, you need to have excellent flexibility, strength and technique! You need to ensure that you have enough height in your leap to be able to hit a perfect split in the air – which is the aim for the perfect split leap. Below are some tips to remember to be able to achieve that Perfect Split Leap!

The Perfect Split Leap:

  • Be sure to keep you head and shoulders up, if you drop your head and shoulders you will barely be able to get your feet off the floor! :-)
  • Make sure you bend your knees in preparation to get the momentum to get off the floor and ensure you are pushing through your toes at all times!
  • The perfect split leap will have the dancer hitting a complete split in the air – so make sure you are pushing that back leg up and not letting it drag behind you. A really common fault in splits leap is a bent back leg, ensure you stretch right through to the toes on that back leg.
  • To be able to achieve the perfect split leap you will need to be able to sit in a complete split on the floor, once you have a split try doing an over split (see picture below) as this will also help you to get that back leg up.
  • This tip is one to help your height but it is Top Secret and I have decided that I will share it with you!! Try raising your eye brows!! Sounds Silly I know!! But it will help I Promise!! :-)

Good luck practicing your split leaps!
